Chorus kicks off busy month with songs for the London Marathon

Sunday April 24th was a long and exciting day for Capital Chorus. We'd been invited by the organisers of the Virgin Money London Marathon to provide songs to spur on the thousands of runners who, each year, rise to the herculean challenge of pounding the punishing 26 mile course to raise millions of pounds for good causes. We were stationed beside the eighteen mile marker and it was a huge privilege to be able to cheer on the top paralympian athletes, the elite runners, the enthusiasts and those good-humoured souls plodding round the course in fancy dress.

We like to think we gave some spirits a lift, though there is no doubt we also slowed down a few of the stragglers who seemed happy to stop, catch their breath and listen. Over four and a half hours we managed to sing around 40 songs - so a marathon for the chorus too! The weather added to the excitement, but despite the hail showers, snow flurries and chill of the wind, the day was fun and enormously rewarding.

It was also a great start to a very exciting month of singing - we're looking forward to opening the Saturday lunchtime concert at London Sangerestevne on May 14th. We're also working hard on our two competition numbers for this year's convention of the British Association of Barbershop Singers. We travel to Harrogate on May 27th. The annual convention is a fun-filled jamboree of competition, shows, workshops and guest quartets from around the world, all topped off with some tremendously enjoyable late-night socialising and singing. Visit our website in June to find what happened at this year's convention, or come and meet us any Monday at our rehearsal at Kingsdown Methodist Church, W13 9PR. We start at 7.45pm.
